Israel has claimed to have killed 9 Palestinian fighters inside a tunnel in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. The Israeli army made the claim in a statement on Friday (November 28). The Middle East Monitor reported. The Israeli army also claimed that more than 30 fighters have been killed so far while trying to escape from an underground terrorist structure in eastern Rafah.
However, Hamas has not yet commented on the Israeli claim. Recently, Israeli media reported that about 200 Hamas fighters are trapped in a tunnel in Rafah. However, Tel Aviv has not yet responded to Hamas and mediators’ requests for safe exit. Rafah is located in an area of the Gaza Strip that is still under Israeli occupation.
Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire deal last October, brokered by the United States, Egypt and Qatar. The first phase of the deal includes the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. It also includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza and the formation of a new administrative system without Hamas. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed nearly 70,000 people in the Gaza Strip. The vast majority of them are women and children. In addition, more than 170,000 Palestinians have been injured during this time.
