Sheikh Amirul Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Pubail Police Station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), has been withdrawn. This information was confirmed in an office order signed by GMP Acting Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan on Tuesday (October 28). The office order mentioned that Pubail Police Station OC Sheikh Amirul Islam has been attached to the GMP police line for administrative reasons until further orders.
Incidentally, recently a media outlet posted a photo card on social media Facebook quoting Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. In that photo card, OC Sheikh Amirul Islam commented, ‘Is a referendum needed first to see whether the anti-independence people have the right to do politics in this country?’ For this reason, Jamaat’s Gazipur Metropolitan Majlish-e-Shura member Md. Amjad Hossain and Pubail Police Station Jamaat Naib-e-Amir Mohammad Shamim Hossain Mridha have filed a written complaint with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
The complaint states that since joining Pubail Police Station, OC Amirul Islam has been participating in a political party’s program and making statements against Jamaat-e-Islami and its leaders and activists. He has also been giving police protocols to the leaders of that political party. Recently, he made comments in light of the Jamaat Amir’s statements.
It also states that OC Sheikh Amirul Islam, being a government official, is behaving politically biased, which has destroyed administrative impartiality. They want exemplary punishment for him. However, OC Amirul Islam said in this regard, “Action has been taken before the complaint was filed. So I have no comment on this.”
