MPO-affiliated teachers are rallying in front of the National Press Club demanding job nationalization and 45 percent house rent along with their salaries.
The sit-in program began shortly after 9 am today (August 13). Teachers from schools, colleges, madrasas and technical educational institutions joined it. As a result, traffic on one side of the road was blocked.
The protesters are scheduled to march towards the secretariat to demand their demands. Therefore, adequate police have been deployed in the area. Earlier, teachers from private MPO-affiliated secondary schools from all over the country came to Dhaka to join the program.
The protesters said that they are victims of discrimination. While teachers in government institutions receive 45 percent of their basic salary as house rent, MPO-affiliated teachers receive only Tk 1,000. In addition to house rent, the protesting teachers also demanded equal medical treatment and festival allowances for government employees and job nationalization. At this time, they also announced that they would continue the sit-in program if nationalization and discrimination were not reduced quickly.
